Industry Experience
Lockheed Martin, Advanced Development Programs (The Skunk Works)
Senior Material & Process Engineer | 2020 - 2021
Because of my early success in my role as an M&P engineer, I was eligible for a rapid promotion to a senior role that provided me opportunity to lead and manage projects. I maintained my role as a member of the site's Diversity & Inclusion Council, and I led efforts with the blessing of my executive leadership to proactively shape the organization's culture. I developed innovative solutions for other business areas, and I created and led teams. I regularly communicated effectively through written and verbal means to audiences ranging from early career engineers and interns to executives at the Vice President level.
Material & Process Engineer | 2019 - 2020
I supported a significant company cost-saving initiative by performing data analyses, briefing company leadership and employees, gathering complex feedback, and working with a large, multi-disciplinary and multi-state team. I led another cost-saving initiative by coordinating a team including those in Web Development, Human Resources, and Engineering & Technology in the creation of a one-stop-shop website that consolidated resources required for employees to navigate their roles and perform effectively. I coordinated material development and production between interdisciplinary internal customers, and I regularly managed a number of risk, readiness items, and opportunities. Finally, I led and supported key company employee efforts including the directorate’s intern program, a company-wide Engineering & Technology early career development effort, and I was selected as a member of the Palmdale site's Diversity & Inclusion Council.
Courses taken throughout my time in these roles include control account management (including earned value methodology, budgeting, and accounting), risk and opportunity management, project management, security compliance, environmental health and safety, financial strategy, and electromagnetics.
Please note that due to the nature of the work performed at the Advanced Development Programs division of Lockheed Martin, I am unable to share the majority of my work and contributions.

Internships
Lockheed Martin, Advanced Development Programs
I interned with the Signature Management & Survivability organization's Materials team. In this role, I contributed to a variety of challenging technical and customer-focused efforts. I optimized the development and processing of materials through the creation of a design of experiments, system diagram, documentation system and hands-on testing. I also supported Lockheed Martin business and technical executives and government customers. Throughout my summer, I worked as a mentor to younger interns at the behest of my manager and senior manager. I also had the honor and privilege of serving as a guide for high-level guests including former Chiefs of the Skunk Works and Allan Lockheed Jr., son of Lockheed Corporation's Allan Lockheed, as part of the 75th Anniversary of the Skunk Works celebrations. Lockheed Martin, Advanced Development Programs I interned with the Signature Management & Survivability's Integration team in Palmdale, CA. In this role, I contributed to material advancement, learned the fundamentals of radar and RCS reduction, and performed materials testing. Furthermore, I contributed significantly to an effort regarding talent attraction and retention that was briefed to the company CEO Marillyn Hewson, and I performed a case study that I then briefed to the VP of Strategy & Customer Relations.

I contributed as a member of the program management team. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics was tasked with fulfilling an F-35 offset agreement with the Republic of Korea through procurement, delivery, and launch of a military satellite. The program is estimated to cost $500M with estimated earnings of $2.1B in offset credit. Alongside my team, we interfaced regularly with senior managers, directors and vice presidents in areas including business ventures, business development, program office, legal, finance, contracting and licensing as we created and presented various work products. These work products included a risk register, mitigation plans, multi-year master schedules, financial plans, roles and responsibilities, org charts, contract renegotiation recommendations, and project management plans.
I supported ADP (SkunkWorks) in an IRAD project investigating configuration modification product offerings within the F-22 fighter and training fleets. I contributed primarily in program management and affordability support by performing initial cost estimates for configuration mod options as well as doing high-level risk assessment.
In studies by the IFG Affordability team, it was found that parts included for aircraft fleet modification kits arrived at inefficient times ranging from weeks too early to months and even years too late. The Joint Electrical Design Installation (JEDI) tool was designed with the intention of capturing and configuring parts for fleet modifications before delivery to SAP, a German-based software development team. I contributed by performing software tests, interfacing with system architects and software developers, and writing technical documentation for the end user.
Lockheed Martin has striven to excel in company culture by working towards a "culture of accountability." I was fortunate to work with a team dedicated to this goal, however in speaking with other interns I recognized that not all teams within Aeronautics had embraced the transition. When I discovered that there was no formal method by which the company was capturing feedback regarding intern experience and perspective on LM's internal culture, I decided to organize my own event. I worked closely with my manager to organize a candid conversation between leaders and interns in order to share perspectives on company culture, celebrate areas of success, and to brainstorm solutions for improvement. Four interns, myself included, were selected, and the event was successful, with multiple leaders including the Executive VP of the Integrated Fighter Group in attendance.

I participated in the NIFS (NASA Interns, Fellows, & Scholars) Program as an intern at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. I had the unique and valuable opportunity to work with a variety of disciplines as I supported Dr. Mia Siochi's Nano Incubator team from within the Vehicle Analysis Branch within the Systems Analysis & Concepts Directorate. I reviewed artificial gravity integration designs in vehicles intended for deep-space exploration from a systems analysis perspective, and in the process I learned a great deal about the physiological effects of human spaceflight. I investigated potential carbon nanotube applications in these designs, specifically in the context of tethered vehicle concepts. I had the wonderful opportunity to present my findings not only in a poster presentation to the center as a whole, but to my branch, a former astronaut, and a number of high-level LaRC management including the center's chief scientist. Below is the poster I presented as one of my exit presentations.
I presented this work on behalf of myself and my co-author Dr. Glenn Hrinda at the 67th Astronautical Congress in September in Guadalajara, Mexico.

October 2009 - August 2011
|
I worked as a waitress at a facility that provided exceptional assisted living, Alzheimer's care and independent living services for seniors. In this position, I worked closely with residents and their caregivers as well as residents' families. Because my own grandparents had already passed away, I cherished the opportunity to work with my community's senior citizens. The position required immense patience and the ability to communicate simply and effectively. I consider myself very fortunate for the relationships I was able to build with residents and the wisdom they imparted through their stories.

Organization of candlelight vigil for victims of terrorist attacks
|
When I learned that Michigan Tech had no plans to formally acknowledge the victims of the Paris, Beirut and Russia terrorist attacks in fall of 2015, I took the initiative of organizing my own event. The candlelight vigil was well attended by students, faculty, members of the community, local media. I felt it was critical for our community to come together with the greater global community to not only remember the victims and their families but to speak out against hatefulness and violence.
