Leadership Positions
Purdue Solar Racing Team
During my time at Purdue University, I was a member of the Purdue Solar Racing Team first as a member of the Mechanical Division then as the elected Treasurer. This multi-disciplinary, student-run team designs, builds and races solar-powered vehicles both in national and international competitions. The team, which consists of a diverse set of students working in business, operations, and engineering functions, also participates in a variety of outreach events within the West Lafayette, IN community. The team has been featured in articles by National Geographic and PCMag due to its success and innovation.
My responsibility as the Treasurer included far more than managing the team's multi-thousand dollar account. As second-in-command to the team's president, I oversaw much of the general management of the team. In this position, I was given the opportunity to develop my communication and management skills as I helped lead the team to a win at the 2013 Shell EcoMarathon in Houston, Texas. I also worked closely with the university administration and our sponsors who included Boeing, Lockheed Martin, 3M and Chrysler.

Transfer History
As you may note, there are three universities highlighted in this portfolio. I attended Purdue University from August 2011 through May 2013, during which time I was in the selective First Year Engineering Honors Program. After two years, my parents asked that I come home to Washington state to address now-resolved health issues. In January 2014 I enrolled at a local school, Gonzaga University, where I studied Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry while working part-time as an R&D engineering intern at Itron. I was fortunate enough to meet a professor from Michigan Technological University at a conference in October of that year who strongly encouraged me to consider a second transfer into their Materials Science and Engineering Department. I transferred to Michigan Tech in August 2015 and graduated with my Bachelor's of Science in April 2017.
Despite the nontraditional path my undergraduate education took me, I am confident that I have made the most of each situation, and I look forward to applying all I have learned from each institution to the next stages of my education and career.
